Run-Flat Tyre technology
Bridgestone Run-Flat Tyres
Every day, drivers expect more and more from their cars in terms of safety, comfort and efficiency. Bridgestone meets these needs head-on with our pioneering Run-Flat Tyre technology (RFT).
Bridgestone Run-Flat Tyres are increasingly fitted to the premium cars of today and tomorrow. Run-Flat Tyre technology, first pioneered by Bridgestone as far back as 1986 with the Porsche 959, is being adopted by more and more car manufacturers as the next step forward in car safety.
Why use Run-Flat Tyres?
Safety for you, your family and other road users. Bridgestone's RFT enables you to safely continue your journey even in the case of a sudden loss of tyre pressure. The RFT capability is immediately effective at the moment of pressure loss, keeping the vehicle under control, even at speed and avoiding potentially fatal situations.
The end of disrupted journeys and dangerous roadside tyre changes is here today. Bridgestone Run-Flat Tyres are able to continue driving in comfort and safety for another 80km at a speed of 80km/hour. So you can continue driving to your destination, a safe location or a Bridgestone dealer.
Increased economy, efficiency and comfort. Run-Flat Tyre technology removes the need to carry a spare tyre, reducing weight and offering the end user more storage space and the car manufacturer more design opportunities.
How do Run-Flat Tyres work?
Run-Flat Tyre technology increases the rigidity of the tyre and the heat resistance so that the tyre can support the weight, even with low or zero pressure. Bridgestone's Run-Flat Tyres meet this challenge by combining design, materials and construction changes that optimise the location, shape and physical property of each tyre component.
Bridgestone Run-Flat Tyres incorporate state of the art technology, including:
1) Thick, reinforced sidewall of heat-resistant rubber - allowing the tyre to carry weight at zero-pressure.
2) A hard bead core to ensure a secure fit to the rim and prevent collapse, even after a puncture and total air loss.
Tread rubber
Sidewall-reinforcing rubber
- Formulated to maximize support whilst minimizing heat generation
Wide Bead
- More substantial ensuring a secure fit
Low-heat base rubber
- Minimizes heat generation in the tread area
Low-heat bead filler
- Minimizes heat generation in the bead area
